Complete Announcement
Chicana/Latina Studies: The Journal of MALCS invites participation in Writing Workshops at the 2007 MALCS Summer Institute and Conference, University of Minnesota, Aug. 2-4, 2007.
The Writing Workshops are one of the Journal’s formal methods of creating a feminist editorial process. Following the spirit and mission of MALCS, the coeditors are interested in publishing the work(s) of participants who complete the workshop. Participants will come away from the workshop with clear recommendations for meeting internal criteria of Chicana/Latina Studies, specific editorial direction for their work, and first-hand knowledge about our feminist editorial process.
Each workshop has space for 8 participants, who must register for the Summer Institute and pay membership dues for 2007-2008.
With verification of membership and registration, applicants are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
We encourage applications from writers at all professional levels.
Please apply for only one type of workshop (Creative Writing or Essay Writing).
THE WORKSHOP WORKS!!!
Although participation does not guarantee publication, the information and experience facilitates the submission and double-blind-peer review process.
We celebrate the following successes:
Dora Ramirez-Dhoor (published in 5:1)
Rosalia Solorzano Torres (5:1)
Ann Marie Leimer (5:2)
Patricia Trullijo (6:1)
and

Essay Writing Workshop
SIX SPACES ARE STILL OPEN.
FACILITATOR: TBA with Dr. Karen Mary Davalos, coeditor Chicana/Latina Studies
WHY
The writing workshop is an opportunity for scholarly writers to be part of a collective process. We will benefit from the critiques provided by the facilitator and attendees, and from our insights into reviewing the work of others to prepare our own work for publication. Karen Mary Davalos will provide guidelines about publishing in Chicana/Latina Studies. Prior to the workshop, participants are expected to have read and commented on the material of the other authors. Space is limited to eight participants. SIX SPACES ARE STILL OPEN.
WHAT TO EXPECT
We all read and comment on each other’s work.
Participants will be asked to sign an agreement that guarantees the journal’s Right of First Review of the material developed through the workshop. The agreement allows authors to compensate participants and editors for their labor and guarantees that the author will formally submit the work to Chicana/Latina Studies for consideration of publication. It also requires the author to acknowledge the assistance of the participants if the work is published elsewhere.
