Kathy Villalón, a dedicated educator with over 20 years of experience in the field of education, has a personal connection to her work. Growing up in the borderlands of Pico Rivera and Whittier, California, she was deeply influenced by her parents’ migration experiences from Mexico in the early 1970s. This background has instilled in her a profound appreciation for social justice, equity, diversity, and the importance of inclusive and responsible education. Dr. Villalón’s research, which focuses on education and immigration policy and how these intersecting areas impact students in higher education, is a testament to her commitment to advocating for students. Her work aims to shed light on the challenges faced by students in mixed-status families and advocate for policies supporting their success.Today, Dr. Villalon is a new lecturer in the Education & Child Development Department at Whittier College.
