Jennifer Lopez, known as JLo, is a passionate advocate for equitable urban development and community empowerment. They are in their 2nd year in their master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning at Cal Polytechnic- Pomona. Currently working on their thesis analyzing local government interconnections/relations and community engagement in Boyle Heights. JLo’s journey began after completing their undergraduate studies at Sonoma State in Women’s and Gender Studies with Distinction minoring in Queer Studies y Chicano Studies.Aiming to address the pressing issues surrounding gentrification plaguing their community, they returned to their home of Boyle Heights. Still, they continue their community involvement and leadership through being a sister of Sigma Pi Alpha Sorority. Co-chair representative for the Graduate caucus’@ Mujeres Activas en Letras y Cambio Social (MALCS) & The National Association for Chicana/Chicano Studies. Current President for CPP’s Graduate Planning Student Association (GPSA) club while also working as a Graduate Coordinator at University Village. They are interested in expanding their professional development and community engagement through residential education. JLo is applying to PhD programs in public and planning policy this upcoming cycle. They recently got admitted into the 2024 Future Planning Scholars (FPS) Program, developed by the University of Michigan Urban and Regional Planning PhD program.
