CFP: MALCS Summer Institute Writing Workshops

CALL FOR PARTICIPANTS
Chicana/Latina Studies: The Journal of Mujeres Activas en Letras y Cambio Social calls for participation in the Writing Workshops at the 2008 MALCS Summer Institute at the University of Utah, July 30-August 2.

Deadline for application: June 3, 2008 (extended)

The Writing Workshops are one of the Journal’s formal methods of creating a feminist editorial process. Following the spirit and mission of MALCS, the coeditors offer the workshops in order to energize through collaboration and institutionalize mentorship. Participants bring a work-in-progress and will come away from a workshop with clear and specific recommendations for meeting internal publishing criteria at Chicana/Latina Studies, specific direction about revising their work, and first-hand knowledge about our feminist editorial production process.

We encourage applications from writers at all professional levels, including tenured or mid-career professors.

We have an inclusive policy to assist writers at all levels, but we wish to also remedy the challenge faced by tenured faculty who lack avenues for peer mentoring. If you have a work-in-progress and are considering the MALCS journal for publishing, then we invite you to attend a Writing Workshop.

Two Writing Workshops will be offered this summer:
1) The Creative Writing Workshop, facilitated by Dr. Tiffany Ana Lopez, coeditor of creative writing.

2) Essay (or scholarly article) Writing Workshop, facilitator by Dr. Karen Mary Davalos, coeditor of articles.

Each workshop has space for 8 participants, who must register for the Summer Institute and renew membership for 2008-2009.

Workshops will begin in the afternoon on Weds. July 30, 2008.

Applicants are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Preference is given to those who pre-register for the MALCS Summer Institute.
