The selected fellow will receive a stipend of $51,500<br \/>\neach year as well as an annual research allocation of $2,000 and Rutgers<br \/>\nUniversity health benefits. The fellow will pursue research and teach<br \/>\nthree courses in the Women\u00c2\u2019s and Gender Studies Department during the<br \/>\ntwo-year term of her\/his appointment. The fellow also will participate in<br \/>\nseminars and other activities organized by the IRW.<br \/>\nThe Women\u00c2\u2019s and Gender Studies Department has particular interest in<br \/>\nscholars of U.S. Latina and Latin American Feminism, Asian American<br \/>\nFeminist Studies, and African Feminism, especially those working on<br \/>\ncritical sexualities, but welcomes applications from all scholars who feel<br \/>\nthat their work would benefit from affiliation with our department and<br \/>\nwith the IRW.<\/p>\n<p>Women\u00c2\u2019s and Gender Studies has a rich history at Rutgers University.<br \/>\nInaugurated as a department in 2001, Women\u00c2\u2019s and Gender Studies has grown<br \/>\nfrom offering a few courses at the University in 1973 to becoming one of<br \/>\nthe strongest interdisciplinary graduate and undergraduate programs in the<br \/>\nUnited States. Department faculty include 30 core, 117 graduate, and 75<br \/>\naffiliate members whose expertise in Women\u00c2\u2019s and Gender Studies is<br \/>\nenriched by specializations in the Arts, Anthropology, History,<br \/>\nPhilosophy, Sociology, Political Science, and Comparative Literatures in<br \/>\nEnglish, French, and Spanish.<\/p>\n<p>The IRW\u00c2\u2019s seminar, organized around an annual theme, brings together<br \/>\nfaculty and advanced graduate students to discuss works-in-progress from a<br \/>\nrange of disciplinary and methodological perspectives. Annual topics for<br \/>\n2011-14 are: Trans Studies: Beyond Hetero\/Homo Normativities (2012-2013)<br \/>\nand The Cosmetic and the Polemics of Fashioning the Self (2013-2014).<\/p>\n<p>The IRW also hosts a Distinguished Lecture Series, which invites<br \/>\nwell-known scholars working on women, gender, and sexuality to come to<br \/>\nRutgers to share their research with our faculty and students throughout<br \/>\nthe year, and offers professional workshops and mentoring opportunities,<br \/>\nsuch as the Negotiating Basics Workshop.<\/p>\n<p>The broad interdisciplinary nature of both the Women\u00c2\u2019s and Gender Studies<br \/>\nDepartment and the IRW will allow the selected fellow to become fully<br \/>\nintegrated into the life of the university. Rutgers is an institution with<br \/>\na deep commitment to scholarship on women, gender, and sexuality. Both the<br \/>\nWomen\u00c2\u2019s and Gender Studies Department and the IRW are part of the<br \/>\nInstitute for Women\u00c2\u2019s Leadership (IWL), a consortium of eight different<br \/>\nRutgers units focused on women and gender, constituting the most extensive<br \/>\ncollection of resources on these issues at a university in the United<br \/>\nStates.
