The Ethnic Studies Department at the University of California, San
\nDiego invites applications for a position as an Assistant Professor of
\nNative American\/Indigenous Studies beginning Fall 2012, pending budget
\napproval.\u00c2\u00a0 We welcome applicants whose work encompasses Native
\nAmerican and Indigenous-centered knowledge production and
\nepistemologies.\u00c2\u00a0 We will prioritize applicants whose research engages
\nwith gender, sexuality, and\/or feminism.<\/p>\n
We are especially interested in interdisciplinary and intersectional
\nresearch, including transnational and diasporic contexts, though
\napplicants in all social science or humanities disciplines are
\nencouraged to apply.\u00c2\u00a0 While the hiring institution is in California,
\nwe recognize the transcolonial links that also extend outside of the
\nAmericas to the Pacific Islands, Australia and New Zealand, and the
\ncommon Indigenous political, social, and cultural issues that have
\ngiven rise to international Indigenous rights and decolonization
\nmovements.\u00c2\u00a0 Candidates with a history of leadership in teaching,
\nmentoring, research or service towards building an equitable and
\ndiverse scholarly environment, including active research partnerships
\nwith Native American\/Indigenous communities, are also urged to apply.<\/p>\n
Situated in a region where the US-Mexico border zone, indigenous
\nnational and tribal governments, and the Asia-Pacific interact to
\nproduce a dynamic geopolitical location, UCSD\u00c2\u00b9s Ethnic Studies
\nDepartment is a vibrant community of scholars committed to the
\ninterdisciplinary study of race, ethnicity, indigeneity, gender,
\nsexuality, class, and dis\/ability. The department\u00c2\u00b9s innovative
\napproach represents a commitment to transnational, relational, and
\nintersectional methods for producing critical knowledge about power
\nand inequality, including systems of knowledge that have emerged from
\nracialized and indigenous communities in global contexts. Ethnic
\nStudies is devoted to creative, conceptual, and empirical research;
\ncritical pedagogy; collaborations with a broad group of affiliated
\nfaculty; and social justice projects developed with and for the
\nuniversity, our home communities, and the broader public.<\/p>\n
