\n<\/strong><\/div>\n
WHAT: Feminist collaboration for publication!<\/strong><\/div>\n
The Writing Workshop is one of the Journal\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s formal methods of creating a feminist editorial process. Following the spirit and mission of MALCS, the journal\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s editors offer the workshop in order to energize through collaboration, programmatically link scholarship and leadership, and institutionalize mentorship. Participants bring their work-in-progress and depart with clear recommendations for meeting internal criteria of Chicana\/Latina Studies, specific direction about revision, and first-hand knowledge about our feminist editorial production process.<\/div>\n
To create an intellectual community, prior to the workshop, participants read and commented on the material of the other writers. Attending both two-hour sessions (the first on Weds. Aug. 3, and the second on Friday Aug. 5) is required.<\/div>\n

One Writing Workshop will be offered this summer:<\/div>\n
1) The Academic Article: A Writing Workshop, facilitated by Dr. Karen Mary Davalos, former editor of Chicana\/Latina Studies.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
DATES and TIMES<\/strong>: Aug. 3 at 3:00-5:00 p.m. and Aug. 5 at 8:00-10:00 a.m. \u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0Participants may arrive on Tuesday, Aug 2, but must contact the Cal State LA Site Committee to arrange housing. The workshop will begin at 3:00 p.m. on Weds., Aug. 3 and continue on Friday Aug. 5 at 8:00 a.m. of the MALCS Summer Institute. This schedule means that participants miss only one hour of the MALCS Summer Institute programs.<\/div>\n

WHY: It really works!<\/strong><\/div>\n
Past participants who have been published in the journal are: Dora Ramirez-Dhoor (5:1), Rosalia Solorzano Torres (5:1), Ann Marie Leimer (5:2), Patricia Trullijo (6:1), Carmelita \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Rosie\u00e2\u20ac\u009d Casta\u00c3\u00b1eda (7:2), Marivel \u00c2\u00a0Danielson (7:2), M. Bianet Castellanos (8: 1 & 2), and Rosa Furumoto (8: 1 & 2), and more!<\/div>\n

WHO<\/strong>: The editors encourage applications from writers at all professional levels, including tenured or mid-career professors. \u00c2\u00a0Dissertation writers are not suited for the workshops since they are receiving mentorship and guidance from their faculty. <\/em>Additionally, the dissertation writing style or genre is distinct from the academic article. \u00c2\u00a0Each workshop has space for 8 participants, who must register for the Summer Institute and be current MALCS members.<\/div>\n

FINE PRINT<\/strong>: Acknowledge the labor of others. \u00c2\u00a0Although participation does not guarantee publication, the information and experience facilitates the submission and double-blind-peer review process. See above for our successes! \u00c2\u00a0Participants will be asked to sign an agreement that guarantees the journal’s Right of First Review of the material developed through the workshop. The agreement allows authors to compensate participants and editors for their labor and guarantees that the author will formally submit the work to Chicana\/Latina Studies for consideration of publication. It also requires the author to acknowledge the assistance of the participants if the work is published elsewhere. The Right of First Review is understood as an aspect of feminist practice, accountability, and leadership and scholarship.<\/div>\n

WHAT TO SEND:<\/div>\n
Please submit a cover letter describing the project and the author\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s goals for publication (audience, timeline, etc.), the author\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s contact information for various media and technology or the lead author\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s contact information, and one copy of the scholarly article of 5,000 words or 25 pages (not including tables, notes, or references). All submissions should conform to the journal\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s style and the text must be double-spaced.<\/div>\n
Due to the goals of the workshop, we cannot accept submissions of dissertation chapters.<\/div>\n
