{"id":698,"date":"2011-04-04T21:52:02","date_gmt":"2011-04-04T21:52:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.malcs.org\/archive-2017\/?p=698"},"modified":"2011-06-07T17:51:37","modified_gmt":"2011-06-07T17:51:37","slug":"malcs-2011-los-angeles-call-for-papers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/malcs.org\/archive-2017\/2011\/04\/04\/malcs-2011-los-angeles-call-for-papers\/","title":{"rendered":"MALCS 2011 Los Angeles Call for Papers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">New Online Submission form available here now!\u00c2\u00a0(now closed)<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Mujeres Activas en Letras y Cambio Social<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Summer Institute<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>California State University, Los Angeles<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>August 3-6, 2011<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Against Fear and Terror: \u00c2\u00a0Una Nueva Conciencia Sin Fronteras<\/em><\/p>\n<p>MALCS is a \u00e2\u20ac\u0153national organization of Chicanas\/Latinas and Native American women working in academia and in community settings with a common goal: to work toward the support, education and dissemination of Chicana\/Latina and Native American women\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s issues.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d \u00c2\u00a0The theme this year aims to foreground the academic and activist endeavors contesting the current framing of citizenship and belonging through binaries such as immigrant\/non-immigrant that ignore lived relationship, histories and transformative practices in rights-based struggles.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>In the past decade, our communities have confronted multiple forms of boundary making processes, greater surveillance, policing and restrictionist policies. In many ways, these developments ignore longstanding economic and cultural relationships and emphasize conflict, fear and exclusion. \u00c2\u00a0 The erasure of our histories, the denial of our rights and even the criminalization of our right to livelihood, rights to education and rights to family life, in all its diverse formations, push academics and activists to explore these processes as they manifest in institutions, communities and neighborhoods within and outside the state, within our very bodies.<\/p>\n<p>We are interested in how our work negotiates &#8211;through our diverse locations of class, sexuality, nation and generation, our stories, music, poetry, visual art and foodways, etc. &#8211;the negative portrayals and marginalization of our communities to (re)affirm our humanity and our rights. \u00c2\u00a0 We seek a variety of work that explores the pursuit of a socially just and inclusive society beyond borders: \u00c2\u00a0&#8220;Against Fear and Terror: Una Nueva Conciencia Sin Fronteras.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Vendors may write to <span style=\"display:inline;unicode-bidi:bidi-override;direction:rtl;\" class=\"\">moc.liamg<span style=\"display:none;\">obfsctd-76999f<\/span>&#64;1102aluscsclaM<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Suggested Topics May Include<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>2001 Patriot Act\/Homeland Security<\/li>\n<li>Unprecedented Detention and deportation<\/li>\n<li>AZ SB1070 \u00c2\u00a0and racialization, illegality<\/li>\n<li>Chicana\/Latina\/Native American women\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s resistance and activism<\/li>\n<li>Social Justice\/Popular Movements\/Poder Popular<\/li>\n<li> civil disobedience, popular democracy<\/li>\n<li> DREAMERs, 2006 Marches<\/li>\n<li>budget cuts, neoliberalism<\/li>\n<li>reproductive justice, the right to marry\/love<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The 2011 MALCS Site Committee at the California State University, Los Angeles invites academics, educators, students, professionals, activists, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153artivists,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d and community members of all disciplines and fields of interest in Chicana, Latina and Native American\/Indigenous Women\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Studies to submit proposals for individual papers, \u00c2\u00a0panel sessions, roundtables, workshops, performances, conversations or alternative formats.<strong> Proposals are to be submitted electronically by May 15, 2011. <\/strong>All abstracts and panel proposals should contain title of paper, affiliation, email and street addresses, and contact number.
