The Department of Education, Culture and Society at the University of Utah (https:\/\/www.ed.utah.edu\/ECS\/) invites applications for a tenure track position, open-rank, with research and teaching expertise in issues of language diversity and education. The position begins in August 2007. The Department of Education, Culture and Society is a cross-disciplinary group of scholars committed to social justice and education through the study of race, class, culture, language issues, gender and sexuality. The majority of scholars in the Department have a joint appointment with the Ethnic Studies Department.<\/p>\n
Qualifications: The applicant must have an earned doctorate in an appropriate field. Priority will be given to candidates with a demonstrated commitment to conducting research in ethnically\/racially diverse communities (e.g. Latino\/Chicano, Indigenous, Pacific Islander, African American, or Asian American) and a social justice agenda in their research or teaching of language\/literacy issues in education. Desirable areas of research\/teaching interest include: language and power, language and gender, indigenous language revitalization, language and identity, language ideologies, language socialization, critical approaches to literacy and language learning, and bilingual education. Preference will be given to candidates who have expertise in qualitative research methods and experience working with English language learners in K-12 settings.<\/p>\n
Responsibilities: Teaching responsibilities include two graduate-level courses per year that focus on language\/literacy issues, one graduate course in qualitative methods, and one undergraduate multicultural education course per year. The candidate will be expected to develop or tailor graduate courses to their area of interest, mentor doctoral and masters students, and collaborate with faculty within the department and across campus.<\/p>\n
