Prof, Chicano Stu, CSU Los Angeles"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!--more-->California State University, Los Angeles<br \/>\nAnnouncement of Opening<br \/>\nDepartment of Chicano Studies<br \/>\nCollege of Natural and Social Sciences<\/p>\n<p>POSITION: Assistant Professor, tenure-track position in the multidisciplinary area of Chicano(a) Studies and Social or Behavioral Sciences.  If unable to fill a position, it may be converted to a full-time temporary appointment.<\/p>\n<p>STARTING DATE: September, 2007<\/p>\n<p>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A Ph.D. or ABD in a social science discipline, specializing in the Chicano(a)\/Latino(a) community, urban issues, politics, community health, and\/or mental health, from an accredited institution of higher education.  A doctorate is required for tenure.  The candidate must demonstrate potential for effective and creative teaching at the college level, scholarship leading to publications, and service to the department, university, and community.  Furthermore the candidate must show capability for effective teaching using a variety of methodologies as well as the ability and\/or interest in working in a multiethnic, multicultural environment.<\/p>\n<p>DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Preference will be given to those candidates who can demonstrate successful teaching in the following areas: the Chicano(a)\/Latino(a) community, urban issues, politics, community health, and\/or mental health as well as a broad range of multidisciplinary courses in Chicano(a) and Latino(a) studies.  The candidate must demonstrate an ability to utilize diverse methodologies in teaching and research.  The candidate must provide evidence of potential research productivity.  Bilingual in Spanish language desired.<\/p>\n<p>DUTIES: The successful candidate will be evaluated according to the following criteria: (1) Commitment to teaching and mentoring students at the undergraduate and graduate levels; (2) Ability to contribute to the University through a variety of activities such as student advisement, curriculum planning and development, and committee service; (3) Appreciation of and sensibility to issues of multi-ethnicity.  The faculty member will be expected to teach courses in their specialization, as well as multidisciplinary courses in Chicano(a) and Latino(a) studies, and develop new courses in area of specialization, as well as support the department grant writing efforts.<\/p>\n<p>THE UNIVERSITY: California State University, Los Angeles, a comprehensive urban university and one of 23 campuses that comprise the California State University, offers programs in more than 50 academic and professional fields.
