\u00e2\u20ac\u0153I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve had the distinct privilege of listening to these songs for several years.\u00c2\u00a0 Like sacred gifts they\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve been offered up in the relative privacy of Rusty\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s living room, along with good food and the laughter of old friends.\u00c2\u00a0 They speak to the conditions of our lives; love\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s won and lost; the burdens and joys of family; the injustices and inequalities that continue to plague us; and the living connections we feel to our ancestors.\u00c2\u00a0 Some contain haunting phrases that seem to have been spoken by La Llorona herself.\u00c2\u00a0 Others delineate the problematic social conditions that we face and challenge us to continue our struggles.\u00c2\u00a0 All of them quickly become refrains we hum to ourselves and remember with a smile or a tear.\u00c2\u00a0 Though you will hear references that are specific to her Mexican American heritage, you will just as quickly realize that Rusty\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s songs belong to a long line of folk traditions that have come to be recognized as \u00e2\u20ac\u0153the people\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s music.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d\u00c2\u00a0 I am thrilled that with this CD, you will have the opportunity to experience the quiet power of Rusty\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s floricanto.\u00c2\u00a0 I have my favorites, but I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ll let you discover your own\u00e2\u20ac\u009d.
