The cd nominated &#8220;Imaginaries&#8221; was inspired in part by Emma Perez&#8217;s <em>Decolonial Imaginaries<\/em>&#8211;one of the foundational texts of Chicana Feminist theory. \u00c2\u00a0Of course, Martha and Quetzal interpreted that in a such powerful musical way and had such a great dialogue with the musicians they created with.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Martha&#8217;s academic scholarship focuses on the transnational music movement Fandangos Sin Fronteras. She recently presented her scholarly work in a plenary at last summer&#8217;s MALCS Summer Institute as well as other venues in Paris and Germany. She co-organizes the <a title=\"Seattle Fandango Project\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/pages\/Seattle-Fandango-Project\/158069722064\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Seattle Fandango Project<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0as well as the series \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Alma en la Tarima\/Soul Dancing\u00e2\u20ac\u009d featuring Rubi Oseguera Rueda (Son De Madera), and Carolina Sarmiento (Son Del Centro, Santa Ana CA).<\/p>\n<p>Martha recently published, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Zapateado Afro-Chicana Fandango Style: A Self-Reflective Moment,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d in<em>\u00c2\u00a0<a title=\"Dancing Across Borders\" href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Dancing-across-Borders-Danzas-Mexicanos\/dp\/0252076095\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Dancing Across Borders: Danzas Y Bailes Mexicanos<\/a><\/em>, eds. Olga Najera-Ramirez, Norma E. Cantu, Brenda M. Romero. University of Illinois Press.<\/p>\n<p>Smithsonian describes <em>Imaginaries<\/em>\u00c2\u00a0as a creative combination of &#8220;East L.A.\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s soundscape, traditional\u00c2\u00a0<em>son jarocho<\/em>\u00c2\u00a0of Veracruz, salsa, R&amp;B, and more to express the political and social struggle for self-determination and self-representation 12 tracks, 55 minutes, 40-page booklet with bilingual notes.&#8221; \u00c2\u00a0The album was produced by Quetzal Flores and Daniel E.
