Favela was a great person, a great father and a great teacher and friend.  Favela was a humble man that fought for civil rights with his artwork and community activism.<\/p>\n<p>Estimados amigos\/as,<br \/>\nEscribo esta carta con una gran tristeza para informarles que nuestro querido maestro Ricardo Favela falleci\u00c3\u00b3 el domingo, 15 de Julio del 2007 en Dinuba, California de un paro cardiaco. Favela fue una gran persona, un gran padre de familia y un gran maestro y amigo. Favela siempre fue una persona humilde que luch\u00c3\u00b3 por los derechos de La Raza a trav\u00c3\u00a9s de su arte y de su activismo comunitario.<\/p>\n<p>See below for mass and memorial&#8230;.<br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Ricardo Favela was a founder of the Rebel Chicano Art Front aka the Royal Chicano Air Force (RCAF).  The RCAF is a Chicano artist collective founded in Sacramento, California in 1969.  Favela and the RCAF Supported the United Farm Workers Union (UFW) during the Civil Rights Movement.  Ricardo was a faculty member at the California State University, Sacramento&#8217;s Art Department were he taught printmaking and Barrio Art for over 10 years.  Favela&#8217;s students will miss him dearly and through the use of serigraphy, they will keep his vision of community empowerment alive.<\/p>\n<p>His memory and legacy will live through his wife Clara Cid and their children Margarita, Florentina, Manuel and Rosita.<\/p>\n<p>Here are the details of his funeral:<br \/>\n<span style=\"font-style: italic\">Rosary <\/span>&#8211; Wednesday at 6pm &#8211; Dopkins Funeral Chapel, 189 South J Street, Dinuba, CA 93618<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-style: italic\">Mass <\/span>&#8211; Thursday at 10am &#8211; Dopkins Funeral Chapel, 189 South J Street, Dinuba, CA 93618.\u00c2\u00a0 Internment will follow at the Smith Mountain Cementary.<\/p>\n<p>A <em>Memorial <\/em>for Ricardo Favela will take place at the opening of Dos Generaciones Art Exhibit on Friday, July 20th, 2007 at 7PM at the Toyroom Gallery located at 907 K Street in Downtown Sacramento.<br \/>\nThere will an altar in his memory at the exhibit.\u00c2\u00a0 You are welcome to bring ofrendas (offerings) to be added to the altar.\u00c2\u00a0 In keeping with the tradition of Floricanto, feel free to bring poetry, music and palabras to be shared with our community.<br \/>\nThe Brown Syndicate, a Chicano artist collective that Ricardo Favela advised, will be raising funds through the sale of a limited edition poster featuring the artwork by Ricardo Favela, Xico Gonz\u00c3\u00a1lez, and Manuel R\u00c3\u00ados.\u00c2\u00a0 All proceeds will go towards establishing a scholarship in Ricardo Favela&#8217;s name.\u00c2\u00a0 The first recipient will be Rosita Favela, whom will be applying to college at the end of this year.<br \/>\n________________________________________________________________________ Estimados amigos\/as,<\/p>\n<p>Escribo esta carta con una gran tristeza para informarles que nuestro querido maestro Ricardo Favela falleci\u00c3\u00b3 el domingo, 15 de Julio del 2007 en Dinuba, California de un paro cardiaco. El RCAF es una colectiva de artistas chicanos fundado en Sacramento, California en 1969.  Junto con miembros del RCAF, Favela apoy\u00c3\u00b3 a la Uni\u00c3\u00b3n de Campesinos (UFW) durante El Movimiento.  Ricardo form\u00c3\u00b3 parte de la Facultad de Artes Pl\u00c3\u00a1sticas de la Universidad Estatal de California en Sacramento, donde ense\u00c3\u00b1\u00c3\u00b3 serigraf\u00c3\u00ada y Barrio Art por m\u00c3\u00a1s de 10 a\u00c3\u00b1os.
