Part II held.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1983 <\/strong>\u00c2\u00ad MALCS meetings began on a formal basis.<\/p>\n<p><strong>January 1984<\/strong> \u00c2\u00ad UC Davis produced the first MALCS newsletter.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1984 <\/strong>\u00c2\u00ad Discussion of a research institute began.<\/p>\n<p><strong>November 1984<\/strong>\u00c2\u00a0 150 persons subscribed to MALCS newsletter.<\/p>\n<p><strong>May 7, 1985<\/strong> \u00c2\u00ad Ada Sosa Riddell, Deena Gonzalez, and Elisa (Linda) Facio wrote the proposal for the &#8220;Chicana Summer Institute. Planning Session.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p><strong>1985 <\/strong>\u00c2\u00a0<em>Trabajos Monograficos<\/em>, the MALCS working paper series began. The editorial board consisted of Antonia Casta\u00c3\u00b1eda, Alma Garcia, Clara Lomas, Adaljiza Sosa Riddell and Lenora Timm.<\/p>\n<p><strong>August 16-17, 1985<\/strong> \u00c2\u00ad Workshop\/meeting held in Pomona to write a proposal for a research center and the first Chicana\/Latina Summer Institute. A 17 page+ document was produced.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1986 <\/strong>\u00c2\u00a0First MALCS Summer Research Institute at UC Davis. Theme: Violencia y la Mujer.<strong>\u00c2\u00a0<\/strong>Representatives from Mexico attended. Emma Perez wrote summary of the event for La Red.<\/p>\n<p><strong>July 24, 1986<\/strong> \u00c2\u00ad MALCS By\u00c2\u00adLaws were written.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Spring 1987 <\/strong>\u00c2\u00ad Women\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Unit, Chicano Studies Research Center sponsored the First MALCS organizational meeting in Southern California at Pomona.<\/p>\n<p><strong>July 27, 1987 <\/strong>\u00c2\u00ad First printed by\u00c2\u00adlaws of MALCS made available to members.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1987\u00c2\u00ad <\/strong>2nd MALCS institute at UC Davis. Theme: Ethics. Dolores Huerta, Ana Nieto Gomez, and Cherrie Moraga were plenary speakers. Constitution revised. Ideological debate over the goals and objectives of MALCS.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1988 <\/strong>\u00c2\u00ad Yolanda Lopez developed the MALCS logo.<\/p>\n<p><strong>July 20-\u00c2\u00ad23, 1988<\/strong> \u00c2\u00ad 3rd MALCS institute at UC Davis. Theme: \u00c2\u00a0Beyond Stereotypes. Deena Gonzalez was a plenary speaker on sexuality.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1988 <\/strong>\u00c2\u00ad Chicana Studies Policy workgroup formed.<\/p>\n<p><strong>March 20, 1989 <\/strong>\u00c2\u00ad Margarita Melville (UC Berkeley) and Ada Sosa Riddell wrote &#8220;Preliminary Proposal Submitted by Chicana Policy Issues Workshop.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p><strong>April 1, 1989\u00c2\u00ad<\/strong> MALCS sponsored a meeting at NACS to discuss a Chicana Studies journal.<\/p>\n<p><strong>June 27, 1989<\/strong> \u00c2\u00ad Angie Chabran at UCLA and UC Davis members protested the depiction of Mexican women in a film by a UCLA student.<\/p>\n<p><strong>August 16\u00c2\u00ad-20, 1989<\/strong> \u00c2\u00ad 4th MALCS institute at Santa Clara, California. Theme: Achieving Education &amp; Equity. Organized by Alma Garcia and Martina Valdez. First conference outside of UC Davis. 80 attended, of whom 61 were undergraduates, many of whom were able to attend due to funding efforts by Margarita Melville. Members of the Latina Leadership Network attended.<\/p>\n<p><strong>August 1989<\/strong> \u00c2\u00ad 400 persons subscribe to MALCS Newsletter.<\/p>\n<p><strong>August 3-\u00c2\u00ad6, 1990<\/strong> &#8211; 5th MALCS institute at UCLA. Theme: Conflict and Contradiction.Organized by Angie Veyna, Chicana\/Latina Studies, Office, Chicano Studies Research Center.
