Deadline for Frida Award: Thursday July 10th 2008

Do you know an inspirational women deserving of recognition? A woman who embodies struggle and the dedication to overcome it? If you know a woman who has given you inspiration in some way this is your opportunity to recognize her.

MAIZ is currently seeking community nominations for our next Frida Award Recipient. The Frida Award nominees should embody and embellish the following:
¶        Strength / Fortaleza: Undaunted by difficulties, utilizes not only physical strength but mental, emotional and spiritual strength.
¶        Will Power / Voluntad: When you think of this woman you ask, “How does she do it”?  She is resilient and resourceful in times of hardships and is often the one that encourages you not to give up.
¶        Community Involvement / Servicio a la comunidad: Perhaps she is an organizer, volunteer, voter or even a school chaperone. She is compelled to give back to the community and shares a passion of social justice issues.
¶        Creativity / Creatividad: This woman embraces her creative energy such as; painting, writing, photography, music, craftsmanship and so on.
¶        Culture / Cultura: Like Frida this women shares a deep appreciation and knowledge of her Cultura.
¶        How is this Mujer affiliated to San Jose? Birth place, work place ect.

Process:   MAIZ and community committee will select three finalists. The three finalists will receive recognition followed by the announcement of 3rd Annual Frida Award Recipient.

Dates to consider:    Deadline for Nomination is: Thursday, July 10th.
Notification to Finalists (by phone): Wednesday, July 18th.
Request Finalists’ presence at the Frida Kahlo Fundraiser: July 25th

¶        How does she show her love and appreciation for her Cultura?
