CFP: Presumed Incompetent: Race & Class for Women in Academia

CALL FOR PAPERS!  Presumed Incompetent:
The Intersections of Race and Class for Women in Academia

Edited by: Grace Chang, Carmen G. González, Mary Romero, Yolanda Flores Niemann,
Angela Harris, and Gabriella Gutiérrez y Muhs

We are soliciting academic papers written by academic women of color examining issues of racism, class bias, tokenism, and sexism. All contributions should explicitly address the question of socio-economic status/social class (both class privilege and class-based obstacles) and its intersections with race and gender. We welcome first person narratives and analytical papers that examine the underlying structural factors that perpetuate bias and exclusion as well as recommendations on how academic institutions might address these issues. Pseudonyms for authors are acceptable.

Submission Guidelines: Deadline for abstracts: August 1, 2008
Please send abstracts and one-page bios along with a cover page including your Name (and Pseudonym if you prefer), Address, Day and Evening Phone, Email and Title(s) of paper electronically to moc.oohayobfsctd-5963dd@gnietsac.  Abstracts and bios will be utilized in the book prospectus.

Please send completed pieces electronically to moc.oohayobfsctd-6af51b@gnietsac. If you prefer not to send them electronically please mail a disk with your name and the name of your article to:  Presumed Incompetent, 8816 26th Ave. NW, Seattle, WA 98117

Deadline for first draft of completed pieces: January 15, 2009
Deadline for final draft: September 1, 2009

Please save all work in Microsoft Word format using Times New Roman, 12-point font size and double-spaced. Papers should adhere to Modern Language Association (MLA) style guidelines, APA style, or law review Bluebook citation format. Papers should be 15-25 pages plus references.

If you have additional questions, please e-mail: moc.oohayobfsctd-7aa2f8@gnietsac
