JOB: Asst. Prof, Chicana/Latina Studies, U of Arizona

The Mexican American Studies & Research Center (MASRC) and the Women’s Studies Department at the University of Arizona invite applications for a tenure-eligible entry level assistant professor in Chicana/Latina Studies. This will be a joint appointment with tenure home in the MASRC.

Applicants should provide evidence of an innovative research agenda, commitment to teaching and ability to work in interdisciplinary settings. The successful candidate will contribute to the Chicana/Latina Concentration in Women’s Studies and one of three applied research strands in the MASRC: Historical and Applied Cultural Studies, Public Policy, and Latino/a Health. We are especially interested in candidates with expertise in one or more of the following areas: Chicana/Latina culture; history; immigration; education; sexuality; transnational feminist studies; border studies; critical gender studies; LGBT studies; and/or Latino/a health.

We are seeking an individual who is able to work with diverse students and colleagues and who has experience with a variety of teaching methods and curricular activities. Both MASRC and Women’s Studies (through its Southwest Institute for Research on Women) have a strong track record of securing external funding and candidates with promise to contribute to such pursuits are particularly encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will be assigned no more than four courses (undergraduate/graduate) in an academic year.

This position is for the 2007-2008 academic year and is contingent on availability of funding, PhD in hand by August 2007 preferred. A letter from dissertation chair(s) indicating the candidate?s progress and detailing a timeline to completion should be included in ABD dossiers.
